Why we’re in this - to help improve lives
At LKOTT, we don’t just talk about improving lives—we live it. Yesterday, we had the privilege of being invited to an incredibly important meeting at the House of Commons (because when it comes to heart failure, we mean business!).
The event, 'Driving Improvements in Care and Outcomes for People with Heart Failure', brought together some of the brightest minds and most passionate advocates in the field.
A huge shoutout to the British Society for Heart Failure, (BSH), for their tireless work in tackling heart failure, including their groundbreaking '25 in 25' Campaign—a bold initiative aiming to reduce deaths in the first year after diagnosis by 25% over the next 25 years. That’s 10,000 lives saved every year in the UK alone! If that’s not a mission worth getting behind, we don’t know what is. 💙
We were privileged to hear from:
💡 Kevin McKenna, MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey—a former nurse who passionately chaired the discussion.
🩺 Dr. Lisa Anderson, Chair of BSH & NHS England’s Expert Advisory Group on Heart Failure—who laid out some eye-opening stats: heart failure cases will double to 2 million in the next two decades. The time for action is NOW!
🚴 Bob & Jed from Electric Crank—who shared their emotive, inspiring (and at times hilarious!) heart failure journeys, how being fitted with an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) had been life changing for them as well as proving that even with an LVAD, life, fun—and cycling—goes on. 🚴♂️💨
🩺 Prof. Dave Smith, Medical Director at Abbott—who highlighted the game-changing cardiovascular devices improving patient outcomes.
⚙️ David Lawson MCIPS , Director of Medical Technology & Innovation at the Department of Health and Social Care—who discussed the need for innovation to deliver better care with fewer resources.
But we know that tackling heart failure can’t happen in silos. That’s why we’re incredibly proud of hFRenDs—the only event of its kind in the world! 🌍
Through hFRenDs , we bring together 150 specialist nurses from heart failure, renal, and diabetes fields and create an environment where they can collaborate, share skills, and break down barriers between specialities. Real impact happens when healthcare professionals work together, and we’re making that happen.
Being part of event's like this is just one of the ways where LKOTT is contributing to driving change, and totally demonstrates the respect held for our organisation and what we do,...........because at the end of the day.......our mission is simple: improving lives.
